Two Blissful Hours...and a Productive Month!

When you have just two hours...and unusually, two hours that are not already spoken for...child away at daycare...wife on a shopping spree...(for maternity clothes)...still on winter break from teaching...and just finished a big painting project...

Well I decided to do a little something different. I broke out my Memoir 44 boardgame(s) and had a short set to on my dining table...a WWII historical winter scenario taking place during the Battle of the Bulge. I'm a big fan of the M44 system for quick games that don't need a lot of set-up time and I keep my large filebox of the game components handy for just such a two hour window. It gives a nice break from my "serious" projects and generally refreshes the mind! The Germans won by a hair (one of the great features of this game is the tense close battles it usually generates...and it works great solitare).

Speaking of solitare, do any of you have some insight on Stuart Asquith's book on Solo Wargames? I'm thinking of buying a copy along with the new Tabletop Teasers from CS Grant.
I'm particularly interested in the play by e-mail approach and I'm hoping to get in (or host a game) like that soon.

And as to progress... (a very productive December I think...):
Here are a few images on my December progress on my 18th century ImagiNations...plus maps flags and such...

...the Duchess' cuirassiers

....the Grolstein Artillery

...the armed might of The Konigreich der Blieherzen...Musketeers, Fusiliers, Jagers and Horse all in a month!

With that, I also ordered today some new ECW cavalry from Sash and Saber to add another 3 squadrons to the 40mm side of "Lead Gardens"! It's amazing what enthusiasm (and an ebay sale to provide the funds!) can do...

I love this Hobby!!

I look forward to seeing the ECW cavalry . . . I wish that they had more pictures on their website . . . most numbers don't have anything . . . *sigh*.

Your 18th century troops look good!

Wow, that's quite and army and painting output you have there. I'd better get off my you-know-what and pick up the paintbrush again! Kidding aside, really nice looking soldiers you are amassing there.

Best Regards,

Stokes

Enjoying reading through the back posts I've missed - I would recommend the Asquith Solo book (if you've not yet decided) one because anything Mr Asquith writes is worth having but this is one of his best books, and two it has a fine array of solo'ing idea's.

If you get the opportunity to lay your hands on it, then the "holy grail" of solo technique books (purely my opinion) is the Featherstone book, for scenario's playable by a solo player I'd suggest the Grant "Programmed Scenario's" book...
