had a closer look at the map, couple of minor corrections needed to the counties
- you have two suffolks, I think the one in the north is supposed to be Yorkshire. - Cambridgeshire is a tad big, ? maybe should be 1 hex and Norfolk 2 hexes. - Hex named Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire should be Bedfordshire/Huntingdonshire
UK counties are a bit confusing because they renamed some of them created new ones and alterd boundaries from 1972 onwards.
http://www.abcounties.co.uk/counties/map.htm; this shows the 'historic' counties of the UK (ie pre 1972).
I'll put list of county place names in separate post
Thanks a million for the great information! I'll be getting right to work on revisions to the map. Since the campaign runs in real time, my "cartography section" has some time to get it right ;)

Dave,
places for counties;
I copied a list of counties of England with main towns/cities (from
http://www.abcounties.co.uk/counties/list.htm). For starters I think it would be
best to have one place per county being the county 'capital' or most important
town/city; in some cases I've added other places important during the civil war
with reason in brackets afterwards.
1. Bedfordshire - Bedford
2. Berkshire - Reading, Donnington Castle (Royalist Stronghold)
3. Buckinghamshire - Buckingham
4. Cambridgeshire - Cambridge
5. Cheshire - Chester
6. Cornwall - Bodmin
7. Cumberland - Carlisle
8. Derbyshire - Derby
9. Devon - Exeter, Plymouth (port)
10. Dorset - Dorchester, Lyme Regis (port)
11. Durham - Durham
12. Essex - Colchester
13. Gloucestershire - Gloucester, Bristol (port)
14. Hampshire - Winchester, Southampton (port), Basing House (Royalist
Stronghold), Portsmouth (port).
15. Herefordshire - Hereford
16. Hertfordshire - Hertford
17. Huntingdonshire - Huntingdon
18. Kent - Canterbury, Dover(port)
19. Lancashire - Lancaster
20. Leicestershire - Leicester
21. Lincolnshire - Lincoln
22. Middlesex - London
23. Norfolk - Norwich, King's Lynn (port), Great Yarmouth (Port)
24. Northamptonshire - Northampton
25. Northumberland - Newcastle
26. Nottinghamshire - Nottingham, Newark (royalist stronghold)
27. Oxfordshire - Oxford
28. Rutland - ??
29. Shropshire - Shrewsbury
30. Somerset - Taunton, Bridgwater (port)
31. Staffordshire - Stafford, Lichfield (royalist stronghold)
32. Suffolk - Bury St. Edmunds
33. Surrey - Guildford
34. Sussex - Chichester
35. Warwickshire - Warwick, Coventry (walled city)
36. Westmorland - Appleby
37. Wiltshire - Salisbury, Devizes(castle+town), Wardour (Castle)
38. Worcestershire - Worcester
39. Yorkshire - York, Hull (Port)
For relative positions of places in the counties see
